About the role
Join as a Senior Data Engineer and play a key role in building a greenfield Snowflake platform to consolidate data following a merger in this 12-month fixed-term position. You'll collaborate with a small, skilled team on a major strategic project, combining data from multiple sources using modern tools like dbt to strengthen and advance the organisation’s data practices.

This role can be based in our client’s Christchurch or Wellington offices, or remotely anywhere in New Zealand for the right candidate, with occasional travel to either office.

Duties include:

• Design and build the Snowflake data platform from the ground up
• Develop data transformations using dbt within the Snowflake environment
• Build ETL processes integrating data from existing and new sources
• Partner with internal stakeholders and technology vendors to deliver solutions
• Analyse and reconcile differences between data sets
• Define ETL architecture and broader data functions
• Document data pipelines for clarity and maintainability
• Apply insurance industry knowledge to data processes

Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

• Extensive hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data ingestion and transformation
• Experience with dbt or similar modern data transformation tools
• Strong understanding of dimensional data modelling
• Proficiency in SQL and Python for data engineering tasks
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git version control
• Knowledge of data security frameworks and best practices
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with both technical and business stakeholders
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge
